How To Be Successful At Beauty School

For those who have chosen to pursue beauty school, here are some tips to help you make the most of your experience. Use these tips starting on the first day to set yourself apart!

Get Prepared

Make sure you have all the resources for the first day of class and feel ready for beauty school. Get some notebooks, pens, and pencils so you always have something to write on. Also, take the time to find out what kind of clothes you should get while you are shopping for back to school supplies. Most schools have dress codes or uniform standards that students need to observe. Get these prep tasks figured out so that on the first day of class you can give all your attention to your instructors.

Ask Questions

Throughout beauty school you will be full of questions. Take advantage of your time with instructors! Ask any and all questions that you can think of. Remember that your beauty school instructors are experienced and have a lot of knowledge that they can share with you!

Practice, Practice, Practice

The saying goes, “practice makes perfect.” Don’t be afraid to get in there and get your hands dirty. You may feel a little intimidated to practice in the student salon area* at first, but don’t be! While it may be a little bit outside of your comfort zone in the beginning, if you spend more time doing these things you will get better faster!

Make Friends

Making friends with your peers will make the experience even better. Many of these friendships will last beyond graduation and they can become people you call on for ideas, trends, news, and job opportunities down the road.

Help Others

When you learn something new or master a technique, share your expertise with your friends and peers. Not only will you be helping them become a better cosmetologist or esthetician, but you will be learning and growing at the same time. Teaching others is one of the best way to get better at whatever it is that you are doing. So, be a pal and share your knowledge with those around you.
